Research draws on work by epidemiologists, health economists, historians, statisticians and scholars in artificial intelligence. The published and on-going research contributes to the understanding of the spread of epidemics through the improvement of models characterizing the epidemic and the health behavior of individuals, its health impact, the management of hospitals and the health care sectors and the development of new tools to track and monitor the epidemic.

Research draws on work by sociologists, economists, historians and computer scientists. It aims at understanding the short and long run impact of pandemics on society and people. In particular the research focuses on the effect of social distancing and its acceptance by the public, the effect of the crisis on pollution, the future of food safety and sustainability and the role of social capital and trust in periods of pandemics. Other research examines topics including the spread of (mis) information that occurs in such periods, and the effect of distance learning on students from different backgrounds

Research draws on work by labor organizations, macro-economists and researchers in Finance and Management to study and understand the various aspects of the pandemic on the economy at large, the financial sector and firms. It aims at a better understanding of the types of jobs that can be performed without putting workers’ health at risk, the effect of the crisis on remote working and the sectoral effects of policy measures set up to combat the spread of the virus. At firm level the research aims at identifying the effect of firm ownership and other characteristics on the resilience of firms through crisis. On the finance side a number of projects investigate the effect on the financial sector and how it can contribute to sustain hard-hit firms.
